Watercolor was the first type of painting I ever learned to do thanks to my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Guillot who was a watercolor enthusiast. I’ve long since had a love/hate relationship with it (for various reasons), but I remember the breakthrough of sorts last year when I figured I could use the techniques I learned there on the brush/ink I was just starting to work on in serious.
More recently, I saw this video going around the internet and was reminded of the fact that color will follow wherever the water is, so I decided to try it in a line and not wash/color way. Here is my first stab at such a thing. Drawn without any sort of sketching before hand. Trying for a more poetic/memory type feeling that I think the fuzzy ink lines add to.
This comic will be in my next issue of “Jumbly Junkery” (#6) due to be printed and ready mid-december or so. Issues #4 and #5 (as well as a 24-hour comic I did, “!”) are still available in my etsy store, so get them while they last!
